Upper Respiratory Infections
Causes
Symptoms
A child with a URI may have some or all of these symptoms:
- runny or stuffy nose
- sneezing
- mild fever
- cough
- throat discomfort or a sore throat is also typical, which can be exacerbated by coughing
Children may also experience a decrease in appetite, irritability, or difficulty sleeping due to the discomfort caused by the symptoms. It is important to remember that the presence and intensity of these symptoms can differ from child to child. Parents should closely monitor their child’s symptoms and seek medical attention if the child seems unusually sick or the symptoms persist beyond two weeks.
